Two TISD Elementary Principals Attend the Opening of the 88th Legislative Session with TEPSA

Texarkana, TX - Nash Elementary Principal Liliana Luna and Westlawn Principal Elodia Witterstaetter joined members of the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association committees in Austin, TX, as the 88th Legislative Session began. This was TEPSA's first visit to the capitol in four years because of the pandemic. This visit allowed TEPSA members to speak on public education and how legislative decisions impact local communities.

Luna, currently the TEPSA President-elect and a Region 8 officer, said, "Getting the opportunity to advocate for educators across the state of Texas was an absolute honor. Getting to speak to state representatives and their chiefs of staff was incredible. It was amazing to see how accessible our representatives are. It is imperative that all educators reach out to our state representative to ensure their voices are heard. They need to know the true needs of Texas students and teachers."

The TEPSA advocacy committee develops and analyzes the legislative survey, identifies legislative priorities, and represents Texas Principals and students with lawmakers and key stakeholders.

"It was a great learning experience, professionally and personally! Stay connected to your representatives. Stay informed. VOTE. Our voice matters. I am thankful to TISD who continues to support staff to engage in professional development and opportunities for professional growth," Witterstaeter added.
