Sherri Penix to Serve as Texarkana ISD Deputy Superintendent

Sherri Penix, current Chief Innovation Officer, has been named the new Deputy Superintendent of Texarkana ISD. As Deputy Superintendent, Mrs. Penix will assist the superintendent with cross-functional initiatives and overall execution of the district’s Imagine 2026 Strategic Plan.

“Imagine 2026 drives all of our work as a school system,” said Dr. Doug Brubaker, TISD Superintendent. “Mrs. Penix’s leadership role in the development of the Imagine 2026 Strategic Plan, passion for meeting the needs of students, track record of successfully implementing district-wide initiatives, and highly collaborative approach to continuous improvement indicate that she will be successful as our Deputy Superintendent.”

Prior to joining the Tiger Family in June 2021, Penix served as Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources & Campus Support at Fort Smith Public Schools in Fort Smith (FSPS), Arkansas. She played a key role in the implementation of innovative programs designed to accomplish strategic objectives, such as the expansion of academic opportunities for students and enhancement of staff recruitment and retention efforts. In FSPS, Penix's leadership as a principal was recognized when Euper Lane Elementary was named a National Title I Distinguished School in 2015 and a National Blue Ribbon School in 2016 by the U.S. Department of Education. In addition to her campus and district-level leadership experience, Mrs. Penix has also served students as a counselor and a teacher.

Penix earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Early Childhood from Southern Arkansas University and a Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling from Henderson State University.

Penix replaces Autumn Thomas, who retired December 31, 2022.
